About
I am an artist craftsperson located in Virginia, USA making marbled fabrics and using them to make accessories — bags, scarves, hats, etc.
Marbling is an amazing technique that dates back to the 12th century or earlier. It originated in Japan in the form of Suminagashi (“ink floating”) in which ink is floated on water, and later appeared in the Ottoman Empire as Ebru (“cloud art”) where paints are floated on a thickened water and then manipulated into designs with combs or styluses.
I use water marbling to paint on fabric, which I then use to make a variety of accessories and carry goods. I love using this technique because while there is a clear logic to how the paint moves around on your liquid canvas via fluid mechanics, it can also have unpredictable outcomes at times, and it can be extremely difficult to control how the paint behaves. It is very therapeutic :)
The nature of water marbling means that no two paintings will ever be exactly the same. This means that each item I create will always be unique. I strive to provide a range of different palettes and print designs in my products.
I do custom products using marbled fabrics that are already in my inventory. Check out this page to see what is currently available!
